Project Entrepreneur in Furness
Project Entrepreneur in Furness is a FREE part-time business development programme for people wanting to start and manage their own business. Furness Enterprise operates the 'Project Entrepreneur' in Barrow-in-Furness.
Project Entrepreneur aims to help potential entrepreneurs from disadvantaged areas reduce the barriers traditionally encountered when starting in business by providing a customised, comprehensive programme of business and personal education, support, mentoring and financial assistance.
Project Entrepreneur is open to any employed or unemployed person, who live in the Borough of Barrow in Furness and who are over the age of 18 years and not in full time education.
The Project Entrepreneur programme offers
- grant opportunities by funding essential items required to start up. There are certain criteria you need to comply with to qualify for up £1500 worth of start up support equipment.
The programme operates for one half day per week for thirteen weeks.

Austin Robbie
Austin brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to NES. With over 37 years working for a high street bank he leads on the financial sessions on the programme. Austin started work for Furness Enterprise in 2003 as a self-employed business counsellor. He specialises in Business plan report writing and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. He will be embarking on his eighth course of tutoring for the programme in September.
Michelle Doherty
Michelle has been self employed since 1997, her Company Amethyst Training and development provides training and consultancy support for many different organisation. Examples of projects designed and delivered by Amethyst include:
Communication skills training, Self employment courses, Assertiveness and confidence training, Monitoring of regeneration funding throughout Cumbria & social Enterprise Training.
Born in Barrow, Michelle completed a degree in Social Administration at Loughborough University Michelle is also a Corporate Member of the Institute of Personnel and Development the professional body which supports those working in Training and Development.
