Funding go-ahead for Barrow link road
Funding of £3 million has been granted by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) for new road infrastructure to support the development of key employment sites in Barrow-in-Furness. (Press Release from NWDA)

Tourism investment gets an important boost today, with a brand new £15m grant scheme announced by NWDA and Cumbria Tourism called “The Visitor Attraction Fund”.

A BIG WEEK FOR ENERGY
This is a big week for the energy future of Cumbria. On the nuclear front, anyone planning to build a nuclear power station has to finalise and submit their site nominations to the Government’s Department of Energy by 31 March. Two proposals are planned in Cumbria.

Last week HM Government launched a new website “Real Help Now from HM Government” (www.realhelpnow.gov.uk) which, they say aims to inform residents and businesses about all the “action being taken all around the country to help the economy come through the recession, sooner, stronger and fairer”.

“Retail is Detail”
Last week I met with the Barrow Retailers Group to discuss the retailing prospects locally in this recession. We revealed to them a survey of businesses in Furness which pointed to the local economy seems doing better than it is in many parts of the UK, potentially putting more spending power into the area. They wanted to know how retailers can better access consumers.
