offshore gas storage work may start in 2008

WORK on a £500m offshore gas storage site off the coast of Furness could start next year. The Gateway Storage Company, which submitted its planning application to Barrow Borough Council 19 december includes a large gas compression station being built at Rampside, linked to offshore storage caverns by pipelines.

Barrow outperforms other areas of Cumbria 2004-6

The new Annual Business Inquiry survey for 2006 has just been published it shows Barrow outperformed other districts between 2004 and 2006 Total employment grew in Barrow (+1.7%) There was strong manufacturing growth in Barrow (+19.9%) Business services grew strongly (+36.6%) in Barrow, Barrow (+15.9%) grew significantly faster than the national average
