Welcome to the Furness Enterprise Women in Business page which celebrates the success of women entrepreneurs and women working within businesses of all sizes in the Furness area of Cumbria and NW England.
Our aim is to help women have a larger share of the area’s business owners. We have made great progress increasing the level of women owned businesses over the last decade, currently 40% of all new-start businesses are owned by women. See some of the case studies pictured below
We are encouraging more women to start up in business to boost the local economy, transform the lives of individual women, their families and the communities they live in which are some of the most disadvantaged areas of Northwest England.
We also want to celebrate the important role women play in day to day running of businesses by performing secreterial, administrative, production, project management, design and other general management roles - the reality being that women have key roles in all aspects of business in our community.
This site also educates and provides information about women’s enterprise to inspire, motivate and support more women to enter manufacturing and service businesses or become female entrepreneurs in the area.
It is Furness Enterprise’s aim for the Furness area to be one of the best places in UK for women to start and grow a successful business. Here at Furness Enterprise we can help you make your dream become reality.
If you are considering starting a business, looking to grow your business or have a business idea that you would like to talk through, give Val Robinson, the Furness Enterprise Funding and New Start Manager a call on 01229 820611 or browse through the website for information on all aspects of business and self employment.

by providing you with a ISO9001(2008) Quality Assured, locally provided, locally focused, simplified enterprise
and business support service.
Our Mission
"To drive the development of Furness
towards a stronger, more balanced economic structure, where it
generates wealth from a broad spectrum of industrial, business,
agricultural and tourism activities and provides stable
employment. In order to achieve this, its current dependence
upon defence contracts will be reduced, alternative services and
activities will be sought"
"I just wanted to thank you for the support which we have received
in the New Year from Furness Enterprise in securing the Enterprise Fund Grant and the Heart of Barrow Regeneration
Budget Loan. This financial assistance will play a key part in the implementation plan for business, future strategic
options and in producing a highly credible business plan. I would like to particularly thank Harry Knowles and Val
Robinson. It is hard to find
the right superlatives to describe their input, so perhaps it is
best just to settle on one word - fantastic!"
